FAQ & Patient Guide

How should I prepare for my appointment?

Please eat a light meal before your treatment, and dress in comfortable, loose-fitting clothing.

Do you provide free parking?

Yes. Kinetic Acupuncture provides free parking for patients, in the lot located underneath the building (entrance on Berendo St.). Just tell the parking attendant that you are visiting Kinetic Acupuncture.

Do you want medical records (MRI, X-Ray, lab results) from other offices?

You are always encouraged to bring your existing medical records and other pertinent health-related information, particularly on the first visit.

What is Kinetic Acupuncture?

Kinetic Acupuncture treats the human body as a dynamic, moving entity.

Movement and exercise during treatment promote circulation, structural balance, pain relief, and most importantly, recovery of function in injured areas.

Kinetic Acupuncture was developed in Korea, combining rehabilitative and biomechanical concepts from orthopedics and physical therapy with traditional Asian acupuncture theory. The result is the best of both worlds- a comprehensive and effective method that combines ancient wisdom and modern science.

Does acupuncture hurt?

Acupuncture is usually painless. The hair-thin needles are flexible, sterile, and only used once. After treatment, patients might experience sleepiness or a dull, heavy sensation where the needles were inserted. This is a desired effect and does not generally feel painful.

How does acupuncture work?

This is a complicated question, and the exact mechanisms of action are still being researched. In short, recent research shows that acupuncture points stimulate the central nervous system (brain and spinal cord) to release a variety of neurotransmitters, endorphins and other bio-chemicals. These bio-chemicals can either reduce pain, or trigger release of other chemicals, such as hormones, that influence the body’s self-regulating systems. These biochemical changes improve circulation, reduce inflammation, stimulate the body’s natural healing abilities, and promote physical and emotional well-being.

How many treatments will be necessary?

This depends on the nature of your condition and how your body responds to acupuncture. Generally, chronic conditions take longer to treat than acute problems. With Kinetic Acupuncture treatments at our clinic, most patients notice a difference within three visits. For optimum, long-lasting results, a series of treatments is usually necessary.

Is it possible to make a same day appointment?

Yes. For walk-in and same-day appointments, we will be happy to accommodate you. To minimize your waiting time, or if you have a specific appointment time that you prefer, we recommend that you make an appointment in advance.

What is herbal medicine?

Herbal medicine (plant, animal, and/or mineral products) is a natural and powerful therapeutic tool that helps to facilitate the healing process. Herbal medicine not only eases pain, but also addresses the root causes of illness, bringing balance to our bodies. There are minimal side effects from herbal formulas, and they can also be useful as a preventative medicine. Herbal formulas are customized to each patient according to their needs. Kinetic Acupuncture only uses the highest quality herbs, which have been thoroughly tested for purity and potency.

Where should I store the herbs?

It is recommended to keep herbs in a cool area or store them in the refrigerator. You may take the herbal medication cold, warm, or room temperature.
